Freedom for Nature 2023

In 2023 The John Muir Trust celebrated 40 years of caring for nature in Scotland.

To celebrate this important milestone it held a curated exhibition inviting artist from all genre to submit work that expressed their response to the title "Freedom for Nature". Over 400 artists responded and the best works selected were exhibited in the John Muir Trust Centre in Scotland.

I was privileged to have two pieces chosen for the exhibition, a ceramic piece entitled "Untethered" and a poem on an image entitled "Liminal".

What a fantastic experience and a great privilege. I am delighted that "Untethered" has winged it's way to a new home in Scotland.

Liminal

After walking a while, I realised I had ceased to exist

and become the landscape through which I walked

I had no voice,

but spoke with the cry of the gulls

and my breath became the rush of the wind.

The warmth of the sun was the heat of my blood

and my pulse echoed the beat of the waves

I walked,

and the rhythm of my step

was the beat of my heart;

and the rhythm of my step

was the count of my breath;

and the ancient song of the earth

became the mantra of my meditation

I was lost to time.

And the rhythm of my breath became the wings of a bird

and my heart took flight.
